Phoebe Melmoth
News and Features Editor.
Hi!
My name is Phoebe and I’m a second year Journalism student at Sheffield Hallam University. The main reason I am studying journalism is because I feel the media often fails to fulfil its role within modern day society, and I would like to change that.
I recently wrote an essay on this subject matter, and concluded that in the recent political climate the media has failed numerous times to hold the government accountable for its actions, therefore failing to act as a ‘watchdog’ for society.
I love to write stories that help those that don’t hold much power in society, and expose those who have too much. Some topics I am passionate about include feminist issues, such as abortion rights, access to free contraception, sexual assault awareness, sexual health and the different stigmas around sex and relationships.
I am also very interested in the political side of journalism, and look up to journalists such as James Obrien, Owen Jones, Peter Oborne and Florence Given.
