Dr Strange 2: What we know so far

May contain spoilers

The sequel to Marvel’s Dr Strange is the next highly anticipated project from Marvel Studios. Dr Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is directed by Sam Raimi (Spider-Man 2002 and Evil Dead) and its leading man, Benedict Cumberbatch has promised fans it will be as epic as Endgame and No Way Home.

Cumberbatch (Sherlock and The Imitation Game) will be reprising his role as the fan favourite sorcerer Dr Stephen Strange. Trailers have also confirmed that Chiwetel Ejiofor (2012 and The Lion King) will be back as Baron Mordo, who at the end of the last instalment was set on ridding the world of sorcerers. Whether he will be continuing this quest is yet to be confirmed, but fans believe it is entirely possible.

Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch, Wanda Maximoff, is also confirmed to appear. The last time she appeared was at the end of WandaVision reading the ‘Darkhold,’ the book of the damned. Her role in the film is currently unclear, but rumour has it she may become a villain at some point but ultimately end up aiding Dr Strange.

Trailers have also hinted that Marvel Comics’ Illuminati may be making an appearance. In the comics, they are a team of Marvel’s greatest minds, including Professor X and Tony Stark. Marvel may bring this team to the MCU, there may be a difference in the characters who appear. The second trailer for Multiverse of Madness included the voice of Patrick Stewart, who played Charles Xavier in the 2000s X-Men movies. His comic counterpart appears in the team in the comics so his appearance in trailers indicates that the team could appear in this film.

With Sam Raimi at the helm, fans can expect horror elements to be brought into the film alongside breath-taking cinematography. Production for the second Dr Strange movie wrapped last September with significant re-shoots taking place afterwards, so that the film could explore more aspects of the multiverse.

With so much at stake it is fair to say that Multiverse of Madness has the potential to alter the fate of the MCU forever.

Dr Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is released on May 6th and will have a runtime of two hours and six minutes.
